Now it is time for us
all to consider adding some aromatherapy in with our
romance reading because the combination of these two
activities will change the way you think of relaxation
forever! Like most of you, I thought I had a good idea
of what aromatherapy was, but it turns out that my idea
was a tad off. According to the New Age Spiritual
Dictionary, aroma therapy is: "The art of healing and
wellness using essential oils and oil blends."
Hmmm... now I was just thinking that it was setting a
little mood with a nice scented candle or something.
Yes, if you get
technical about it, aromatherapy is indeed more of an
alternative form of medicine than just burning some
incense or candles. But hey, therapy can involve the
body or the mind.
Personally, the soothing scent given off by a nice
candle or stick of incense is just what the doctor
ordered when trying to shake off a hard day at work or
when I am attempting to forget all about that visit to
the mother-in-law’s house over the holidays!
Therefore, consider aromatherapy to be nothing more than
setting a nice relaxing atmosphere by filling the air
with something that smells nice to you. No more, no
less. It may not be up to snuff according to the New Age
Spiritual Dictionary, but I won’t tell if you won’t!
Now, what
on earth does any of this have to do with reading a
romance novel?
In a word: EVERYTHING.
A romance
novel offers the reader a chance to escape into a safe
but exciting world of the author’s creation. Generally,
the writer spends a good deal of energy trying to create
the right tone and mood for the novel.
No matter how gifted that person may or may not be with
the written word, however, nothing can get those
romantic juices flowing quite like some exotic scent.
If you really want to get serious about setting the
right atmosphere for your romance novel, try to match
the scent with some particular idea from the romance
novel. If, for instance, you are reading a romance novel
that is set in some tropical locale, try lighting a
candle or stick of incense with a coconut scent.
Just try lighting the candle or incense about fifteen
minutes before reading and see if it does not help make
the transition from reality to fantasy easier than you
could have ever imagined!
Truthfully, it really doesn’t matter if you try to match
the scent with some idea from the book or not. The point
is not really to overly complicate things but just to
add a little depth to the romance reading experience.
It is like dimming the lights when watching a movie on
your DVD player or VCR. We all know that we are not in a
movie theatre but we still like dimming those lights,
don’t we?
Well, lighting a candle or a stick of incense is exactly
the same idea as dimming the lights only, well, more
practical!
Setting the right mood is essential if you are to really
enjoy your romance reading experience. We all know how
impossible it is to read something and really get into
the book if we have our minds on other things or if we
are angry or something.
Lighting a few candles is both romantic and soothing
which is why it will help you get into those pages and
allow the book to draw you into its embrace and show you
a world that is everything you could have ever dreamed.
So the next time you are ready to cozy up on the couch
with a great romance novel just be sure to light a
candle or stick of incense first and allow the aroma to
whisk you away into that world created by your favorite
author!
Hey, at the very least, the place will smell great when
you are done reading—so what harm could it do?
